One of the most elegant shapes of ring that we think exists, the navette (also known as the marquise) shaped ring flatters and elongates the finger when worn. It also makes a great statement ring too!
 
This particular antique ring features a central star set blue sapphire, surrounded by a border of rose cut diamonds of varying sizes. All of the stones are set in closed back settings. The ring is made from 9ct gold , tested as it is unhallmarked, and the diamonds have been set in a silver wash. 
 
The style of the ring makes us believe it dates to circa 1900 although it could be a little earlier. The ring's face measures approx 16.8mm by 8.4mm, the shank at the back of the ring measures approx 2.6mm wide. The ring weighs approx 2.5g.
 
Ring size - the ring measures on a ring mandrel at approx a UK J 1/2 / approx a US size 5 but due to the ring's spread of its face North to South, we'd say it wears a little snugger than this, approx a UK i 1/2 / approx a US 4.5 
 
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear. It has some light surface wear to the gold and stones. The diamonds are irregular in shape, size and colour. There is what looks to be an old resizing mark to the shank towards the back of the ring and there are some marks/slight pitting to the gold on the back of the ring's face. As all of the stones have been set in closed back settings we recommend taking care when wearing the ring not to get it wet or let it come into contact with any liquids as this could damage the settings of the stones.
