The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.
This beautiful antique Mizpah ring is the perfect example of this type of love token. Made from 9ct gold with British hallmarks, the word 'MIZPAH' is spelt out in raised letters in a beautiful gothic style font. The gold has a lovely rose tone to it with the gold behind the letters having a yellower tone which gives a nice contrast.
Inside, the ring is hallmarked for the maker 9ct gold, Chester and the date letter 'R' for 1917. There is also a maker's mark but this is now very worn and unable to be read.
The ring weighs approx 3g and measures approx 6.5mm at its widest point at the front and tapers down to approx 2.5mm wide at the back.

Condition - The ring is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear including surface wear to the gold. There is an old resize mark towards the back of the shank which is visible on the inside and outside of the shank. Please see photos.
