We couldn't help but be drawn to this antique ring as soon as we saw it. It looks as if it has been a marriage of two pieces, we think that the face of the ring was taken from another piece of jewellery, possibly a brooch or pendant. Sometimes pieces were split up like this if damaged beyond repair, or if a piece of jewellery was broken up to be inherited by different family members.
 
The face of the ring has a lovely combination of closed back stones, including a central oval shaped garnet surrounded by four small turquoise cabochons and 12 small seed pearls. The shank of the ring is a lovely buttery gold, marked '15' inside the shank for 15ct gold as well as 'W.M' for a maker's mark.
 
Ring size - approx just under a US 7 1/2 / approx a UK O 1/2 (please note that the band is quite wide and wide bands often wear a little snugger in size depending on your finger shape) 
 
The ring weighs approx 4.55g and the face measures approx 14.5mm tall by approx 9.9mm wide. The ring band measures approx approx 2.8mm wide at the back of the shank and 8.9mm wide under the face of the ring. 
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold and gemstones. One of the turquoise stonse is chipped and one looks to be a possible replacement. As mentioned above, we believe this ring is an antique conversion piece and so old solder marks are visible where the face of the ring meets the gold shank. The seed pearls have changed colour over time and have a blue tinge to them and the turquoise have also changed colour slightly and do vary in shades.
