Rare and highly collectable, we completely fell head over heals in love as soon as we saw this antique 15ct gold and diamond bean stick pin! A symbol of luck, as well as rebirth and new beginnings.
The bean is made of 15ct gold, marked '15ct' to the reverse (although this mark is almost completely covered by the stick pin). Without full British hallmarks, it's hard to date the stick pin exactly but we know it predates 1932 as 15ct gold was discountinued as a gold standard in England that year. We think it's likely late Victorian/early 20th Century in age. The pin part of the stick pin isn't hallmarked, this tests as 9ct gold and is a lot lighter in colour than the 15ct gold bean and a little rosier in tone too.
The bean is set with a tiny rose cut diamond in a beautiful star setting.
The bean measures approx 10.5mm tall by approx 6mm wide and the pin section measures approx 52.3mm long. The stick pin weighs approx 1.25g in total. The bean is hollow in the middle.
Condition - The stick pin is in good antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold bean, diamond and the pin. The pin will be shipped with the antique box pictured as we think it could likely be its original box. The pin fitting at the back of the bean sits slightly into the bean so the back of the bean is slightly concave. Please see photos.
