We love searching for antique and vintage jewellery as you never know what unusual treasures you're going to come across next. Like this unusual moving bird pendant that we think likely depicts a heron, stork or crane. It has been wonderfully made and is hinged so its beak actually moves.
It's quite pointed to the tip, so we're not sure if it was made as a tool of some kind, maybe to help unpick a stitch or perhaps it's a toothpick.
The pendant is made from sterling silver and is marked for the maker 'PHC', '925' twice for sterling silver and has the Birmingham anchor assay mark.
The pendant measures approx 61.5mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 6.3mm wide when the beak is folded in by approx 6.9mm deep. From the tip of the beak to the ring that the jump ring connects to it measures approx 48.7mm long. The pendant weighs approx 5.3g.
Condition - The pendant is in good vintage condition with some signs of age and wear, including some surface wear and tarnishing to the silver. The beak moves freely so can move when worn. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos for more detail.
