How incredible is this vintage French pendant?! It was designed by artist Jean-Baptiste Emile Dropsy (the pendant is signed E. Dropsy to the front) who was a famous French medalist and designed pieces for Oria during the Art Nouveau period. The bail is marked Oria for the Parisian jewellery makers.
The pendant features beautiful raised detailing to the front depicting Vercingetorix, a Gallic chieftain who rallied the tribes of Gaul to try and stop the Roman invasion of Julius Caesar in 52 BC. Meaning ‘Victor of a Hundred Battles’, he is known for his unwavering Gallic resistance against the formidable might of Rome.
We think given his meaning, the pendant would make a wondeful wearable protection talisman. The back of the pendant also has lovely raised detailing that features his armoury.
The pendant is gold filled, a method of giving the pendant the look of solid gold but without the price tag. The core of the pendant is base metal that has had a layer of gold gilded to the outside.
The pendant measures approx 22mm tall (not including the bail) by approx 18.3mm wide by approx 2.1mm deep and weighs approx 2.3g in total.
Condition- The pendant is in good vintage condition with some light signs of age and wear. There is some rubbing to the gilded gold, particularly around the edge which shows the darker base metal that has worn through in places. The bail is soldered closed. Please see photos.
The pendant measures approx 45.5mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 21.2mm wide by approx 10.5mm deep and weighs approx 5.4g in total.
*Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the pendant will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
