If you love your jewels fierce, then this is the perfect ring for you! Engraved with what looks to be a man brandishing a dagger in one hand and what looks like a staff in the other, this vintage gold signet ring is sure to add a warrior vibe to your jewellery box!
The engraving is likely to symbolise a family crest. Sadly, we haven't been able to trace which family but the engraving is similar to the 'Sheppard' and 'Murray' family crests. We love finding family signet rings as they hold such meaning and detail in such a hidden way. It's always a little disappointing when we can't locate the exact family lineage a signet links to but we think the extra mystery surrounding this fierce chap is quite fitting!
The ring is made of 9ct gold, tested. The ring did once look to have British hallmarks but these have almost been completely lost to a previous resizing. The maker's mark 'PPLD' is still visible. Without the hallmarks, it's hard to date the ring exactly but we believe it likely dates to the late 20th Century.
Ring size - approx a US 8 1/4-1/2 / approx a UK Q 1/2 - P
The ring weighs approx 8.8g and the face measures approx 15mm by 12.5mm. The shank tapers down to approx 2.6mm wide at the back of the shank.
Condition - The ring is in good, wearable vintage condition but does show signs of age and wear. There is surface wear to the gold throughout, inside and outside of the shank, giving the ring a worn and lived in feel. There is also a visible resize mark to the back of the shank where the hallmarks have been lost. The shank does thin slightly (likely from wear) to one side towards the back but this isn't noticeable when worn. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique boxes pictured are not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation ring box and pouch*
