Known as keeper rings, these braided style bands were popular during the Victorian era, worn to keep other rings, usually more expensive pieces with gemstones, on your finger when worn. They were particularly helpful if you had a ring that was a little loose and at risk of falling off when worn!
Keeper rings were also known as love tokens, gifted between two lovers to symbolise 'you're a keeper' - how sweet!
This vintage ring has been designed with the Victorian style in mind. Due to its style, it wears well stacked with other rings and bands but also looks lovely worn on its own too. We find these keeper rings make sweet weddings bands if you're looking for something a little different!
The front of the ring features a pattern to imitate two bands of braided gold with ball (also sometimes called 'nail') detailing along the plaits. There are 6 gold balls in total.
The ring is made of 9ct yellow gold and has British hallmarks inside the shank but these are almost fully worn away. We belive given the ring's style and others we have seen previously, it likely dates to around the 1980s.
Ring size - approx a US 6 / approx a UK L 1/2
The faux braided section to the front measures approx 16mm by approx 3.5mm and the ring tapers down to approx 0.85mm wide at the back. The ring weighs approx 0.8g in total.
Condition - The ring is in good vintage condition with just some light surface wear to the gold. The ring is ever so slightly out or round but this is not noticeable when worn. Please see photos for more details.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new ring box and pouch*
