The birthstone for February babies, amethysts are great for adding a pop of colour to your jewellery. The stone is also said to have calming properties and is viewed as a stone of peace. This vintage 9ct gold ring has a central amethyst set in a rub over setting and is nestled between two split detailed shoulders. The shank also carries this double shank detailing all the way round and is even marked twice for 9ct gold, as if the ring has been made of two seperate bands joined together. We wonder if it was originally made as an engagement ring for someone who fancied something a little alternative to a diamond. The shank is marked '9c' twice and also has the maker's mark 'HS&Co'. Without a date hallmark it is had to date the ring exactly. We think it's likely approx circa 1920s but it could possibly be antique and be a little older than this. Ring size - approx a US 7.25 / approx a UK O The amethyst measures approx 6mm tall by approx 4.8mm wide by approx 2.5mm deep. The shank is approx 2.2mm wide at the back. The ring weighs approx 1.45g. Condition - The ring shows signs of age and wear including two significant chips to one of the corners of the amethyst stone which has left two gaps between the stone and the setting. We've included a magnified photo (the last photo above) to show the details up close. The amtheyst does also have surface wear to the stone but it is still secure in its setting. The gold also has some light surface wear. Despite the wear and damage, the ring has a lot of life left and has been priced according to its condition. Please see photos. *Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation ring box and pouch*
