This vintage gold picnic basket/hamper charm is one of the most beautifully made charms we've ever found and a rare and collectable piece too! Not only does it open, but it has two latches that individually lift to allow the top of the basket, which is hinged on either side, to fully open. The attention to detail and skill that has gone into making this charm is just incredible!
Beautifully detailed throughout, the charm is wonderful to look at from all angles. Even the bottom has a pretty pattern to it and there are four tiny gold legs too so it can stand up all on its own. The inside of the charm is nice and deep (approx 11.9mm from the bottom of the inside to the point at the top) so you could keep something secretly hidden inside!
The charm is made of 9ct yellow gold and has British hallmarks on the bottom for the maker 'LJI', 9ct gold, the Birmingham import mark and the date letter 'V' for 1970. Both of the top opening flaps have been hallmarked for 9ct gold on the underside too.
The charm when closed measures approx 19.5mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 16.2mm wide by approx 10.3mm deep and weighs approx 4.1g.
Condition - The charm is in good vintage condition with some light surface wear to the gold throughout. All of the hinges and the latches still work meaning the charm stays closed when worn. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
