This antique gold cameo ring is such a stunning piece of jewellery. Set in a beautifully simplistic gold setting, the cameo has been hand carved from a piece of shell with pretty pink/purple hues. The cameo features an Ancient Greek looking figure and although it is quite petite, the detail is still so incredible to look at.
The ring is made from gold (tests as at least 9ct gold, the ring is unhallmarked which is common for a piece of this age) that has a lovely soft rose tone to it. Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the ring exactly but given the materials and style, we believe it is likely Victorian in age, circa 1880s. The Victorian's loved camoe jewellery thanks to Queen Victoria's love of the style and due to many archaeological discoveries that happened during this period including finding Ancient Greek artifacts including cameos.
Ring size - approx a US 7 3/4 / approx a UK P-P 1/2
The ring weighs approx 1.6g and the face measures approx 9.4mm tall by approx 7.4mm wide. The ring shank tapers down to approx 1.5mm wide at the back of the ring.
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition but it does show signs of age and wear. The cameo and the gold show signs of surface wear to the gold and there is an old dark solder mark to the back of the ring that looks to be from a previous resize. Please see photos.
