How sweet is this antique gold Mizpah pendant!? The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.
This romantic pendant/charm has raised gold detailing depicting the word 'MIZPAH' with the sweetest hand engraved saying to the top and bottom that reads:
'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another'
The pendant has a lovely raised floral detail and is made of 9ct gold with British hallmarks to the back for 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'a' for 1898.
The pendant measures approx 18.5mm tall (not including the jump ring at the top) by approx 15.3mm wide by aprox 1.3mm deep and weighs approx 0.8g in total. There is a border to the back which is hollow with a small airhole from when the charm was made.
Condition - The pendant is in wearable antique condition but does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear and some dents to the back. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
