A popular design used in the Victorian era, swallows were believed to represent love and were also given as a symbol of returning safely to your loved ones. The swallow mates for life, making this necklace a beautiful gift for a special someone to symbolise your commitment to each other. We think it would make an incredibly sentimental gift for a bride to be.
The necklace feautures a gold swallow which is hung off a small gold bar. Both are studded with sead pearls. The bar is then hung from a light 15ct gold chain which has four small pearls, two on either side, set at equal distances apart. We believe the necklace dates to the Victorian era, given its style and materials.
The necklace measures approx 15 1/4 inches long. It is hallmarked for 15ct gold on the reverse of the gold bar. It weighs approx 3.6g and the swallow measures 13mm wide by 15mm.
Condition - The necklace is in good antique condition with little sign of wear. Some of the pearls do show signs of age and wear (this includes one of the pearls in the swallow). The chain is in good condition and the barrel push clasp still works well. Please see photos for more detail.
