Symbolising strength, hope and safety, this antique lighthouse silver love token would make a lovely talisman piece to wear as a daily reminder that you are stronger than you think (espeically given all we've endured in 2020!).
The pendant, which dates to the late Victorian era, has been made by smoothing both sides of a silver coin. It has then been hand engraved to one side with the image of a lighthouse and the name 'Frank'. The other side has been engraved 'Cousin'. A silver ring has been added to the top with a jump ring so it can be worn on a necklace or bracelet chain. Known as a love token, they were often gifted when people had to part, we think this particular piece may have links to a seafaring family, and often were worn with lots of others to represent families too.
The coin measures approx 18mm in diameter (approx 22.5mm tall including the fittings at the top) by approx 0.8mm deep and weighs approx 2g in total.
The chain is a modern sterling silver belcher chain with a bolt ring clasp. The chain measures approx 171/2 inches long and is marked S925 for sterling silver. The belcher link measures approx 1.2mm wide and the chain weighs approx 1.85g in total..
Condition - The antique love token does show signs of age and wear, including some surface wear to the silver on both sides. The jump ring is pushed closed and is a little worn inside from where the silver rings have rubbed together. The chain is in as new condition and the bolt ring clasp works well.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the love token and chain will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
