At fist glace, you'd likely think that this antique French Virgin Mary medallion charm is solid gold but it's in fact gold plated. Made by Charles and Georges Murat, a French jewellers who specialised in fine gold plated jewellery, the charm features a side portrait of the Virgin Mary and to the back, a very pretty floral scene with a shining star.
The charm is gold plated, which means it's made from a base metal with a fine layer of gold adhered to the top to give the illusion of solid gold, but without the price tag. The charm is marked to the top ring 'MURAT'.
The charm measures approx 12mm in diameter, approx 18.5mm tall including the ring and jump ring by approx 1.5mm deep and weighs approx 1.2g in total.
Condition - The charm is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear including some light surface wear to the gold plating. The jump ring is currently soldered closed. Please see photos.
