We love jewellery that's practical as well as beautiful and this antique, Edwardian gold pencil pendant is exactly that! The casing is made of gold and there’s a real pencil inside which is flat in shape and looks to be a joiner's pencil, so we think it may have once been a retirement present, a luxurious thank you for the person's many years of service! The pendant is made of 9ct gold with British hallmarks for the maker 'E.B', 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'g' for 1906. The bottom edge of the case is also marked again for 9ct gold. The slider that moves the pencil in and out of the case has been beautifully decorate with a round turquoise cabochon (approx 4mm in diameter). The pendant measures approx 75mm long (not including the jump ring or pencil) by approx 10.7mm wide by approx 8.7mm deep (including the turquoise) and weighs approx 6g (including the pencil inside). Condition - the pendant is in good antique condition to say it is over 100 years old but it does show signs of age and wear. The gold has surface wear to it throughout and there are some noticable indents to the gold in places, particularly to the top front of the casing, one to the bottom right of the front casing and also to the back near the hallmarks. There is a seam line that runs along the front of the gold casing from when the piece was made. The slider mechanism still works well and is quite stiff so the pencil doesn't move when worn without being pushed. The pencil still works and there is a lot of it still left inside too so it will last for quite some time if you did want to use it as intended. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos. *Please note the antique box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the pendant/fob will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
