How sweet is this antique Edwardian gold Mizpah locket!? The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.

This romantic little locket has raised gold detailing depicting the 'MIZPAH' with the sweetest hand engraved saying to the top and bottom that reads:

'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another'

The locket opens to reveal a very faint photo inside, this can be removed if you’d like to add your own here instead. Although petite, the locket does have some nice depth to it and another photo or small memento could be added to the other side.

The locket has British hallmarks to the back for the maker 'S Bros', 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'e' for 1904.

The locket measures approx 16.4mm tall (not including the fitting and jump ring at the top) by approx 12.5mm wide by aprox 3.7mm deep and weighs approx 2g in total.

Condition - The locket is in wearable antique condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, it has definitely lived quite the life in its 119 years of life! The gold has substantial surface wear to the front and back, as well as two dings to the front panel, several dings to the back panel and also a large scratch to the back too. The locket does still open but the hinge mechanism moves slightly when the locket is open so the two panels don't align properly to close easily. The locket can be closed, but the panels need a little wiggling and lining up with one another to close again. Once closed, the locket closure is firm. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. This is a well loved and worn antique piece. Please see photos.

*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
