A timesless classic, we love to wonder about what sweet love tokens were originally kept inside the antique and vintage lockets we find. This sweet antique rolled gold locket has a lovely medallion-like shape, with pretty shield and floral decoration to the front. The back also has lovely scroll decoration too.
The locket has a very simple way of opening up. the front panel simply lifts out from the back and the locket has a nice depth to it to be able to store a photo or other small memento inside. There is a rolled gold circular frame that sits inside the front panel to hold a photo in place. What we love best about lockets like these is that your love token is hidden away, kept a secret just for you to know unless you choose to show someone!
This locket is made of rolled gold, marked twice inside 'ROLLED GOLD'. This means it is made of a base metal with a very fine layer of gold adhered to the top to give the look of solid gold but without the price tag and also gives the locket extra stength as the base metal is sturdier than gold.
Without hallmarks, it's hard to date the locket exactly but we think it's likely late Victorian/early 20th Century in age.
The locket weighs approx 4.3g and measures approx 24.7mm in diameter (not including the jump ring) by approx 4mm deep.
Condition - The locket is in good antique condition but does show signs of age including some surface wear to the rolled gold. There are a couple of small indents to the back but these are hard to see due to the detail and reflective nature of the rolled gold. The circular shape of the back froun panel is a little out of shape but this isn't too noticeable when closed and worn. There is a base metal shaped frame inside the locket but there are no plastic or glass panels. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. Please see photos.
*Please note the box and chain pictured are not included in the sale but the locket will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
