We love finding patterned ring bands, as well as making lovely wedding rings, they also make great stacking rings too! This antique rose gold patterned ring has a lovely alternating pattern of what look to be shamrocks with a geometric, diamond shape in between each leaf - a lovely, unusual contrast!
There are 10 sides to the ring which are slightly angled and flat to form a decagon like shape to the outside and the inside of the ring is round so it's nice and comfy to wear. The diamond engraved panels have the same engraving on each and the shamrocks alternate from top to bottom on each of their panels.
The ring is made of 9ct gold which has a lovely soft warm rose tone to it. The ring has British hallmarks inside the shank for the maker 'J.T', Chester, 9ct gold and a date letter. Sadly the date letter is a little rubbed and hard to make out. From what we can see, it looks likely to have been 'P' for 1878. The 'P' date letter for 1940 does also look similar to this too but from the markings we can see it doesn't quite match up. From the research we've also done on the maker's mark, it could possibly have been made by
'John Gaskins Tayton & Sons' who registered in Chester, England in 1867. Without knowing for sure, this ring does have a touch of mystery to it but that just intrigues us all the more!
The ring weighs approx 3.15g and measures approx 7.5mm wide.
Ring size - approx just under a US size 6 / approx a UK M. Due to the ring's width, we would say that it does feel to wear a little snugger than this, although this will depend slightly on your figner shape (please note that due to the pattern all the way around the band, we wouldn't recommend resizing the ring).
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition for a piece of this age but it does show some signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold. There is a previous resize mark, or this could have possibly have happened when the ring was made. There is a visible linke to both the inside and outside of the band, although this is less noticeable to the outside due to the engraved pattern. The date hallmark is also worn as mentioned above and can't be properly made out. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
