A popular motif with Victorians, buckles were used in jewellery, including rings and bracelets, to symbolise eternity, fidelity, loyalty, strength and protection. Similarly to snakes, the buckle curves around the wearer and fastens like a loop to create a never-ending/eternal circle. This antique gold ring is made of 9ct gold that has a lovely warm rosey tone to it. The ring has British hallmarks inside the shank for the maker 'S&B', 9ct gold and Birmingham. Sadly, due to a previous resize, the date hallmark has been lost so it's not possible to date the ring exactly but we believe it's likely late 19th Century/early 20th Century in age, approx 1890-1920. The ring has lovely belt buckle detailing and also a slight pattern to the front. With its hidden romantic symbolism, we think it would make a lovely alternative engagement ring or wedding band! The ring weighs approx 2.4g and is approx 6.7mm wide at the buckle, approx 3.5mm wide at the back of the ring. Ring size - approx a US size 7 and 3/4 / approx a UK P - P 1/2 Condition - The ring is in good antique condition for a piece of this age but it does show signs of age and wear. There is a line towards the back of the ring in the gold from a previous resize that can be seen to both the inside and outside of the shank. There is also another line repair mark nearer the front too, under the belt detailing section so it isn't visible to the front of the ring but can be seen inside. There is a small dark mark to the belt buckle and some surface wear to the gold throughout. The detailing to the gold has been rubbed away towards the sides and back of the ring and interrupted due to the previous resize. Please see photos. *Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch*
