How sweet is this antique gold Mizpah pendant!? The Hebrew word for watchtower, for centuries, particularly during the Victorian era, sweethearts have given Mizpah jewellery to their loved one when they have been separated from one another in the hope that they will remain safe and well whilst apart, until they are reunited.
This romantic pendant/charm has raised gold detailing depicting the word 'MIZPAH' with the sweetest hand engraved saying to the top and bottom that reads:
'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another'
The pendant has a lovely bobble border detail and some ivy leafs too. It is made of 9ct gold and is marked '9ct' to the back.
The pendant measures approx 23mm tall (not including the fitting and jump ring at the top) by approx 19mm wide by aprox 3mm deep and weighs approx 1.4g in total.
Condition - The pendant is in wearable antique condition but does show significant signs of age and wear, including surface wear and some dents to the front and back. The pendant is hollow in the centre and there are two small airholes to the back from when it was made. The jump ring is currently pushed closed. This is a well loved and worn antique piece. Please see photos.
*Please note the chain and box pictured are not included in the sale but the charm will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch.*
