The birthstone for December, turquoise is the stone we usually reach for in the summer months as the pop of colour looks great when the sun is shining, but also helps brighten up an overcast summers day too!
This pretty antique turquoise ring has such a lovely green/blue toned turquoise cabochon set in a sweet 'crimped' edged bezel setting. We think the tones of the turquoise makes it look a little like a tiny miniature Earth viewed from space! The ring is made of 9ct gold that has a lovely warm, rosy tone to it. It has British hallmarks inside the shank for the maker 'F.A.M', 9ct gold and Birmingham. There is also a second 9ct gold hallmark on one side of the turquoise setting which is a lovely extra touch. There is a date letter but sadly due to a previous ring resize, this is no longer legible. From what we can make out of the hallmark and of the style of the ring, we believe it dates to approx 1900-10s.
The ring's shoulders have a great dramatic shape to them too, especially when viewed from the side. The ring weighs approx 1.25g and the turquoise measures approx 4.6mm by 3.7mm.
Ring size - approx a US size 5.5 / approx a UK K 1/2
Condition - The ring is in good antique condition for a piece of this age but it does show signs of age and wear, including surface wear to the gold and the turquoise. There has been a previous resize that has altered the date hallmark and is visible via a very faint mark to the shank at the back of the ring. There are some small marks to the gold down both sides of the ring, these look to be from when the ring was made. Please see photos.
*Please note the antique box pictured is not included in the sale but the ring will be shipped in a new presentation box and pouch. The antique gold knot ring pictured is also not included in the sale but is available separately in our online shop*
