Here's what's inside the third box of our 12 Days of Christmas (or Charm-mas if you will!) Advent Calendar...a very sweet antique and gold heart charm that dates to 1907! The charm is available at a special festive discounted price until we open box four at 6pm GMT 4th December 2024 too.
We think this adorable heart charm is a birth month piece. Hand engraved 'December', the heart is also studded with a small star set turquoise cabochon - one of the birthstones for December!
The charm is made of 9ct gold and has British hallmarks to the back for the maker 'T.L&S', 9ct gold, Birmingham and the date letter 'h' for 1907. The gold is rosey and warm in tone in places and yellower in tone in others.
The charm weighs approx 1.85g and measures approx 19.3mm tall (not including the jump ring) by approx 14.9mm wide by approx 0.8mm deep.
Condition - The charm is in good antique condition but as it is 117 years old it does show considerable signs of age and wear, including surface wear to both the gold and turquoise. The turquoise has a small dark mark to it near the top and the gold has suface marks to both the front and back. As mentioned above, the gold is rosey and warm in tone in places and yellow in others. There are some marks to the gold to the back too near the hallmarks. The heart could possibly be sanded and polished to remove some of the wear but we have left it as is as we don't want to disturb the hand engraving. The jump ring is currently pushed closed.
